You are likely to find between 100 and 105 dentists practicing in Grand Prairie. This can make it hard to determine which practice you should trust with you or your loved one’s oral healthcare needs. It can be challenging trying to find a dentist that offers special needs dentistry, but Dr. Ford and our team are here to make the process easy. Dentists are required to first complete an undergraduate degree and maintain high scores in math and science. From there, they must enroll in one of the 67 accredited dental schools throughout the country. These programs can often take three years to complete. After earning a Doctor of Dental Surgery or Doctor of Dental Medicine, they can choose to either pursue general dentistry or a specialization.
For example, Dr. Ford is a dental anesthesiologist with nearly 50 years of experience. Although this is not a specialization like orthodontics, pedodontics, prosthodontics, or endodontics, he has chosen to undergo additional training and education to provide more advanced dental care to patients, specifically those who have special needs.
To maintain licensure within the U.S., all dentists must pursue a designated number of continuing education hours each year.
